luxury is your best bet
I'm a girl so I buy the women's shirts and have found that lux fits better than traditional and is not as tight as slim
slim may look too gay

Brooks Brothers slim fit works well for skinny guys — not too tight, and with a good fit. They're quite well fitted, IMO.
And you are correct in that their traditional and luxury fits tend to fit like "tents" — however, I do like their slim fit a lot more because it is better fitting for me. But if you are not too skinny, the luxury fit provides a fine balance.
It fits closer to the body than a traditional fit but it is roomier than a slim fit.
But at the end of the day, it would be hard to describe what would fit you well. Some measurements may be useful.
