How do you use cufflinks on a button cuff shirt?

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

I got cufflinks as a Birthday present and I have no french cuff shirts. Is it possible to use cufflinks on a button cuff shirt?

No not that I’m aware of. My dad and brother both wear cufflinks a lot but they only wear them with french cuff shirts and not with button cuff ones.

Hope this helps!!

Is it possible to shorten the sleeves of a dress shirt?

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

I got a very nice french cuff shirt for Christmas; however, the sleeves are a little long and “puff out” some right about the cuff. It fits nicely everywhere else. Can a tailor fix this?

Yes, find a good tailor or seamstress and give them details, they can taper them a bit for you and cut to the right length before replacing the cuff. It is fiddly work, but can be done. Good on you for wanting to keep the shirt, and tailoring to suit you will make it look fabulous.

Cheers and best wishes Lisa

Should I wear cufflinks and a french cuff shirt to my job interview or is that too flashy?

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Should I wear cufflinks and a french cuff shirt to my job interview or is that too flashy?

Depends on what position that you are interviewing for. If it’s a high-powered position, say, CEO, VP, or any other executive position, absolutely. If it’s an entry-level job at a firm or a place where you could potentially have an important position (every position is important… you know what I mean), then again, yes.

If you are going to an interview at a retail job or a customer-service job, no cufflinks. It’s overkill. If you’re asking the question, it must mean that this job is very important to you. So, I’d probably wear them regardless. Let them know that you’re serious.

Good luck!
